Pull each half of the electromagnetic door lock straight out of the door. Use a butterfly or screwdriver to loosen the lock in the final flap if the door closes on you. Remove the old lock by removing the screws at the edge of the door. Compare the old screws to your new screws. If possible, reuse the old screws again, as changing the screws tends to weaken their grip in the door. Check the hole on the door frame, making it sufficiently deep and aligned to accept the new latch or bolt. Use a chisel to immerse the hole as needed. Remove the old screws on the end flap and replace with longer ones, i.e. 3 inches, for more safety. The strike plate can be reused, except if you want to change it to a stronger one.
