Check the latch to know which electromagnetic door lock tag you have. This will ensure that no modifications will have to be made to the door and door frame. Measured from the center of the door handle or bolt cap, to lock the edge of the door. Common lengths are either 2 3/8 inches or 2 3/4 inches. Remove all visible screws from your old door lock with a screwdriver. Keep the door open after removing the screws.
Pull each half of the electromagnetic door lock straight out of the door. Use a butterfly or screwdriver to loosen the lock in the final flap if the door closes on you. Remove the old lock by removing the screws at the edge of the door. Compare the old screws to your new screws. If possible, reuse the old screws again, as changing the screws tends to weaken their grip in the door. Check the hole on the door frame, making it sufficiently deep and aligned to accept the new latch or bolt. Use a chisel to immerse the hole as needed. Remove the old screws on the end flap and replace with longer ones, i.e. 3 inches, for more safety.
