Offset pivot set represents one of the most common types of pivot door hardware. These sets consist of a top and bottom tap, with the turning point located just outside the door frame. Each tap has an L shape that allows the pivot point to be placed in the floor at a right angle to the door itself. This allows the door to open a full 180 degree when these turntables are used correctly. Offset door hinges can only be used with single operating doors.
Offset pivot hinges are hardware items designed – like all hinges – to enable opening and closing of panels, doors and windows. Traditional hinges transfer the weight of the door to a jamb and the ribs that enclose the pivot pins are visible from one side of the door, even when closed. Offset door hinges are much less intrusive and they transfer the weight of the door to the floor. This is useful in situations where the doors are subjected to extremely high traffic; abuse may occur or is unusually heavy.
An offset door hinges is rotated at the pivot points of the tabs project slightly from above and below the door, rather than being in-line, as are traditional hinges. Equality with most hinge types, the two plates, but the plates are mounted on the top and bottom of the door, not on the edge opposite the lock. Each plate is correctly called a “leaf”. An offset hinge can be located with the tab protruding or behind the door depending on your direction of travel. So recessed doors can open without diffusion on the edge of the groove.offset door hinges
